ABOUT

About Well Being Bodywork…

Is your being well? Of course there’s always room for improvement, but if you have areas of chronic tension, pain, or limitation, bodywork can be an extremely effective way of returning you to the freedom of motion you felt as a child. Often people attribute these body complaints to growing older, as though such changes were inevitable. In truth, the musculoskeletal system has the ability to remain strong, flexible, and open well into old age.

At Well Being Bodywork, I work on patterns, the patterns that undermine your body’s sense of well being. Utilizing slow, deep, specific strokes in combination with opposition, range of motion, rocking and other release techniques, you will find your discomfort melting away, replaced by a new sense of freedom and ease.

About the founder, Laura Cohen (C.N.M.T., L.M.P., N.C.T.M.B.) …

I began my training in massage and bodywork in 1992. Since then, I have become a certified Neuromuscular Therapist and trained across the U.S. in modalities as diverse as Myofascial Release, Trager, Visceral Manipulation, Lymphatic Drainage, Active Isolated Stretching, Craniosacral Therapy and Manual Ligament Therapy. I have studied with Bob Villars (Structural Integration), John Schmidt (orthopedic and sports injury rehabilitation), Dr. Mark Pick (Neurology), Donna Bajelis (Structural Medicine), and Janda and Lewit’s descendant Pavel Kolar, (core stability, developmental kinesiology, poor vs. ideal stabilization systems, their consequent affects on performance and the nervous system link that underlies them).  Most recently, I attended the 2009 International Fascia Research Congress in Amsterdam and the 2010 Interdisciplinary World Low Back and Pelvic Pain Congress in L.A. I have worked in the U.S. and Europe and am a nationally certified practitioner.

Movement and the body are what really interest me. I bring to my practice a wide range of athletic activities as well as years of dance training.
